Prelude to a Rhapsody
for Solo Violin and Orchestra
Instrumentation: 2-2-2-2, 4-2-3-1, 1 perc, solo violin, str
Duration: 5 minutes
"Prelude to a Rhapsody could be a companion piece to the work Rhapsody for Violin and Orchestra. The Prelude is rhythmically charged and is intended to proceed the Rhapsody, although it would not have to come directly before it. The Rhapsody moves along quite
swiftly, but has a lyrical feel to it with many soaring melodic lines. I envisioned that a
conductor might program the Prelude as an opening work to a concert, then perhaps put
the Rhapsody as an opener to the second half"
